Membership Terms & Conditions for Surveyors UK
Effective Date: 1st October 2025
1. Introduction
1.1 These terms and conditions shall govern the provision of paid memberships to our website and free memberships and access to our online community platforms.
1.2 If you sign up for a paid membership of our website or register for a free membership or community account, we will ask you to expressly agree to these Membership Terms. You are hereby reminded that the Surveyors UK (Advantage) Limited Website Terms of Use also apply to your use of our website.
1.3 These terms and conditions do not govern advertisement or sponsorship on our website. If you are interested in advertising or sponsoring content on our website, please contact us at info@surveyors-uk.com.
1.4 For the purposes of these Membership Terms, references to “our website” include any related third-party platforms used by Surveyors UK (Advantage) Limited to deliver membership services, including but not limited to our online community known as “The Surveying Room,” operated via Circle or any successor platform.
1.5 “The Surveying Room” is the official community operated by Surveyors UK (Advantage) Limited and forms part of the Services provided under these Membership Terms.
2. Use on behalf of organisation
2.1 If you use our website or expressly agree to these terms and conditions in the course of a business or other organisational project, then by so doing you bind both:
(a) yourself; and
(b) the person, company or other legal entity that operates that business or organisational project,
to these terms and conditions, and in these circumstances references to “you” in these terms and conditions are to both the individual user and the relevant person, company or legal entity, unless the context requires otherwise.
3. Membership
3.1 You may apply for paid membership of our website by clicking on the type of membership that you would like to apply for, completing the checkout process and paying the applicable membership fees during the membership application process. The contract between us for the membership shall come into force upon your completion of the checkout process. You may also apply for free membership or community access by completing the relevant registration process without charge, and these terms will then apply accordingly.
3.2 For so long as your membership remains active in accordance with these terms and conditions and subject to the other provisions of these terms and conditions, you will have access to the website features specified on our website in relation to the type of membership for which you have subscribed.
3.3 You must not allow any other person to use your account to access the paid membership-only areas of the website or any restricted areas made available to you through community membership. You must notify us in writing immediately if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account.
3.4 We may from time to time vary the benefits associated with a membership by giving you written notice of the variation, providing that, if in our reasonable opinion such a variation results in a substantial loss of value or functionality, you shall have the right to cancel your membership, and we will refund to you any amounts paid to us in respect of any period of membership after the date of such cancellation.
3.5 If you sign up for a paid membership of our website, we may suspend your membership, cancel your membership, and/or edit your membership details at any time in our sole discretion without notice or explanation, providing that if we cancel any services you have paid for and you have not breached these terms and conditions, you will be entitled to a refund of any amounts paid to us in respect of those services that were to be provided by us to you after the date of such cancellation; we will give you reasonable written notice of any cancellation under this Section 3.5.
3.6 You may cancel your membership by emailing us at support@surveyorsuk.com and asking us to cancel your membership and remove your profile from our website. You will not be entitled to any refund if you cancel your membership in accordance with this Section 3.6.
3.7 At the end of any period of paid membership for which you have paid, and subject to the other provisions of these terms and conditions, your membership will be automatically renewed and you must pay to us the applicable membership fees, unless you cancel the membership using the cancellation facility on our website at least 30 days before the date of renewal.
3.8 Free memberships may be withdrawn, suspended or terminated at any time at our discretion. Free members may lose access to certain community or website features without notice.
3.9 We may operate the payment and membership systems through third-party service providers such as Stripe and GoCardless. By completing the membership process you acknowledge that your data and payment information will be processed in accordance with their respective privacy and security policies.
3.10 We reserve the right to alter the platform or system through which memberships are managed, including migrating accounts to a new system or provider, without material effect on your contractual rights.
4. Social and Community Features
4.1 In addition to those features listed at Section 6 of the Surveyors UK (Advantage) Limited Website Terms of Use, paid and free membership holders will have access to such additional social and community features on our website and community platform as we may from time to time determine, which may include:
– facilities to complete a detailed personal profile on the website and publish that profile on the website;
– facilities to join and leave groups and share information amongst group members;
– the facility to send private messages via the website or community platform to particular individuals registered on the website; and
– the facility to post and publish text and media on groups which are open to free account members and individual and professional membership holders.
4.2 The Surveying Room is the official online community operated by Surveyors UK (Advantage) Limited. Access to The Surveying Room may be made available to free members, paid members, and other authorised users, in each case subject to these terms and conditions and any Community Guidelines or rules notified by us from time to time.
4.3 You acknowledge that we cannot be held responsible for the behaviour of our users, either on or off the website, and we cannot guarantee that any information provided by a user is true, accurate, complete, current and not misleading; and, subject to Section 9.1, you will not hold us liable in respect of any loss or damage arising out of any user behaviour or user information.
4.4 You agree to the publication of posts relating to you, by others, on our website or community platform; you acknowledge that such posts may be critical or defamatory or otherwise unlawful; and, subject to Section 9.1, you agree that you will not hold us liable in respect of any such posts, irrespective of whether we are aware or ought to have been aware of such posts.
4.5 We may, in our sole discretion, moderate, edit, remove, suspend or restrict any content, posts or user activity within The Surveying Room or any other social or community areas where we reasonably consider that such content or activity breaches these terms and conditions, our Community Guidelines, or any applicable law, or is otherwise inappropriate. We may use human moderators and/or automated tools to assist in monitoring and enforcing such rules.
4.6 You must not use the community areas for advertising, soliciting work, promoting products or services, or posting content that could reasonably be deemed offensive, harassing or defamatory. Any breach of these requirements may result in suspension or termination of your membership without refund.
5. Job Board Services
5.1 Paid membership holders will have access to such job seeker features on our website, which we will determine in our sole discretion. These may include:
– facilities to upload a CV and/or profile into our database, to enable registered recruiters to search for the CV/profile, to assess whether the jobseeker may be suitable for a role, and to contact the jobseeker where appropriate;
– a facility to enable the jobseeker to browse our database of job listings;
– a facility to enable the jobseeker to receive email alerts, newsletters, notice of competitions, and/or other email notifications from us;
– a facility to limit the disclosure of confidential information to recruiters; and/or
– any other services specified on our website from time to time.
5.2 You acknowledge that we merely provide a facility to enable jobseekers and recruiters to get in touch and that we do not vet or monitor the recruiters who advertise on our website, and you agree that you will not hold us liable, or seek to hold us liable, in relation to any loss, damage or expense that you suffer arising out of the actions or omissions of a recruiter (subject to Section 9.1).
5.3 You must ensure that all the information you provide to us and to any registered recruiter via or in relation to our website is true, accurate, current, complete and not misleading, and you must keep such information up to date.
5.4 For the avoidance of doubt, any CV you upload or supply to us shall constitute “your content” for the purposes of our content standards.
5.5 We may from time to time offer access to third-party career resources and training tools through the Job Board. Such links are provided for your convenience and we accept no responsibility for the content or availability of external sites.
6. Job Posting Services
6.1 This Section only applies to ‘Premium’ and ‘Corporate’ membership holders. Where our current membership structure uses alternative terminology (such as Firm, Business or Partner tiers), this Section shall apply to those tiers which include job-posting or recruiter-level access as described on our website from time to time.
6.2 ‘Premium’ and ‘Corporate’ membership holders will have access to recruitment features on our website, which may include:
– the ability to post job advertisements on our website;
– access to our database of jobseekers; and/or
– any other services specified on our website from time to time.
6.3 For the avoidance of doubt, any job advertisements you upload or supply to us shall constitute “your content” for the purposes of our content standards.
6.4 You acknowledge that we merely provide a facility to enable jobseekers and recruiters to get in touch and that we do not vet or monitor the registered jobseekers who use our website, and you agree that you will not hold us liable, or seek to hold us liable, in relation to any loss, damage or expense that you suffer arising out of the actions or omissions of a jobseeker (subject to Section 9.1).
6.5 You undertake to ensure that all job advertisements that you submit to the website for publication are true, accurate, current, complete and non-misleading advertisements for bona fide jobs.
6.6 You agree to treat the information in our database of jobseekers as confidential, and agree that you shall only use the database and information for the purpose of seeking candidates to fill bona fide jobs; and that you will not copy any information from the database or record or retain any information from the database or disclose to any third party any information from the database, except as strictly necessary for that purpose.
6.7 We do not warrant that you will receive any applications in relation to job advertisements; nor do we warrant that our database will hold information regarding jobseekers that are suitably qualified for the positions that you require to be filled.
6.8 All recruitment activity must comply with applicable employment and equal-opportunity legislation. We reserve the right to remove any advertisement that in our reasonable opinion breaches such requirements.
7. Directory Services
7.1 This Section only applies to ‘Premium’ and ‘Corporate’ membership holders. Where applicable it shall also apply to Firm, Partner or Advertiser tiers granted directory listing rights under our current pricing structure.
7.2 We publish a “Search a Surveyor” directory on our website and you may use the directory to list the services that your organisation offers. We may also publish other directories, including without limitation Partner, Product and Service Directories, and this Section 7 shall apply to all such listings unless stated otherwise.
7.3 You may submit one listing to our directory as part of your membership sign-up process. We may then make amendments to that listing prior to its publication on our website to ensure that the listing is optimised for our website (including editing the content).
7.4 If we accept your directory listing submission, it will remain published on our website for as long as you remain a member of our website, subject to termination or deletion in accordance with these terms and conditions.
7.5 For the avoidance of doubt, your directory submissions constitute “your content” for the purposes of our content standards, and must comply with the acceptable use rules set out in our content standards.
7.6 You must keep your directory submissions up to date using our website interface.
7.7 Your directory submissions must not relate to any unlawful business, product or service; and you must not make any directory submission with a view to conducting any unlawful activity or entering into any unlawful contract or arrangement.
7.8 The publication of your directory submissions on our website does not mean that we endorse such directory submissions and you agree that you will not make any claim that you are sponsored or endorsed by Surveyors UK (Advantage) Limited.
7.9 Without prejudice to our other rights under these terms and conditions, we reserve the right to reject or delete directory submissions that breach these terms and conditions, or that do not meet the additional guidelines for submissions published on our website.
7.10 If we reject or delete a directory submission in accordance with this Section 7, we will not refund any fees.
7.11 Directory listings may be subject to review, editing or temporary unpublishing for technical maintenance or content updates at our discretion, without liability to you.
8. Fees
8.1 The fees in respect of our paid memberships will be as set out on the website or in your membership proposal from time to time.
8.2 All amounts stated in these terms and conditions, in your membership proposal or on our website are stated inclusive of VAT.
8.3 You must pay to us the fees in respect of our website services in advance, in cleared funds, in accordance with any instructions on our website.
8.4 We may vary fees from time to time by posting new fees on our website, but this will not affect fees for services that have been previously paid.
8.5 If you dispute any payment made to us, you must contact us immediately and provide full details of your claim.
8.6 If you make an unjustified credit card, debit card or other charge-back then you will be liable to pay us, within 7 days following the date of our written request:
– an amount equal to the amount of the charge-back;
– all third-party expenses incurred by us in relation to the charge-back (including charges made by our or your bank or payment processor or card issuer);
– an administration fee of GBP 25.00 including VAT; and
– all our reasonable costs, losses and expenses incurred in recovering the amounts referred to in this Section 8.6 (including without limitation legal fees and debt collection fees),
and for the avoidance of doubt, if you fail to recognise or fail to remember the source of an entry on your card statement or other financial statement, and make a charge-back as a result, this will constitute an unjustified charge-back for the purposes of this Section 8.6.
8.7 If you owe us any amount under or relating to these terms and conditions, we may suspend or withdraw the provision of services to you.
8.8 We may at any time set off any amount that you owe to us against any amount that we owe to you, by sending you written notice of the set-off.
8.9 Payments are processed through third-party providers including Stripe and GoCardless. By making payment you consent to those providers processing your data under their own privacy policies.
9. Limitations and exclusions of liability
9.1 Nothing in these terms and conditions will:
(a) limit or exclude any liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence;
(b) limit or exclude any liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
(c) limit any liabilities in any way that is not permitted under applicable law; or
(d) exclude any liabilities that may not be excluded under applicable law.
9.2 The limitations and exclusions of liability set out in this Section 9 and elsewhere in these terms and conditions:
(a) are subject to Section 9.1; and
(b) govern all liabilities arising under these terms and conditions or relating to the subject matter of these terms and conditions, including liabilities arising in contract, in tort (including negligence) and for breach of statutory duty, except to the extent expressly provided otherwise in these terms and conditions.
9.3 To the extent that our website and the information and services on our website are provided free of charge, we will not be liable for any loss or damage of any nature.
9.4 We will not be liable to you in respect of any losses arising out of any event or events beyond our reasonable control.
9.5 We will not be liable to you in respect of any business losses, including (without limitation) loss of or damage to profits, income, revenue, use, production, anticipated savings, business, contracts, commercial opportunities or goodwill.
9.6 We will not be liable to you in respect of any loss or corruption of any data, database or software, nor in respect of any special, indirect or consequential loss or damage.
9.7 You accept that we have an interest in limiting the personal liability of our officers and employees and, having regard to that interest, you acknowledge that we are a limited liability entity; you agree that you will not bring any claim personally against our officers or employees in respect of any losses you suffer in connection with the website or these terms and conditions (this will not, of course, limit or exclude the liability of the limited liability entity itself for the acts and omissions of our officers and employees).
9.8 Subject to Section 9.1, our aggregate liability to you under these terms and conditions in respect of any event or series of related events shall not exceed the total amount paid and payable to us for your membership in the 12-month period preceding the commencement of the event or events.
9.9 Where the Services include access to third-party platforms (such as Circle or any successor community software), we are not responsible for service interruptions, data loss or security breaches that are beyond our direct control.
10. Indemnity
10.1 You hereby indemnify Surveyors UK (Advantage) Limited and undertake to keep us indemnified against any and all losses, damages, costs, liabilities and expenses (including without limitation legal expenses and any amounts paid by us to a third party in settlement of a claim or dispute) incurred or suffered by us and arising directly or indirectly out of your use of our website or any breach by you of any provision of these terms and conditions.
11. Breaches of these terms and conditions
11.1 Without prejudice to our other rights under these terms and conditions or the Surveyors UK (Advantage) Limited Website Terms of Use, if you breach these terms and conditions in any way, or if we reasonably suspect that you have breached these terms and conditions in any way, we may temporarily suspend or permanently terminate your membership of our website or community platform.
11.2 Where we suspend or terminate your membership of our website or community platform, you must not take any action to circumvent such suspension or termination (including without limitation creating and/or using a different account).
12. Variation
12.1 We may revise these terms and conditions from time to time.
12.2 The revised terms and conditions shall apply to the use of our website from the date of publication of the revised terms and conditions on the website, and you hereby waive any right you may otherwise have to be notified of, or to consent to, revisions of these terms and conditions.
12.3 Material changes will normally be notified by email or via a notice within The Surveying Room. Continued use after such notification constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
13. Assignment
13.1 You hereby agree that Surveyors UK (Advantage) Limited may assign, transfer, sub-contract or otherwise deal with our rights and/or obligations under these terms and conditions.
13.2 You may not without our prior written consent assign, transfer, sub-contract or otherwise deal with any of your rights and/or obligations under these terms and conditions.
14. Severability
14.1 If a provision of these terms and conditions is determined by any court or other competent authority to be unlawful and/or unenforceable, the other provisions will continue in effect.
14.2 If any unlawful and/or unenforceable provision of these terms and conditions would be lawful or enforceable if part of it were deleted, that part will be deemed to be deleted, and the rest of the provision will continue in effect.
15. Third-party rights
15.1 A contract under these terms and conditions is for our benefit and your benefit, and is not intended to benefit or be enforceable by any third party.
15.2 The exercise of the parties’ rights under a contract under these terms and conditions is not subject to the consent of any third party.
16. Entire agreement
16.1 Subject to Section 9.1, these terms and conditions, together with our content standards, privacy and cookies policy and website terms of use, shall constitute the entire agreement between you and us in relation to the subject matter of this agreement and shall supersede all previous agreements between you and us in relation to the subject matter of this agreement.
17. Law and jurisdiction
17.1 These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English law.
17.2 Any disputes relating to these terms and conditions shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England.
18. Statutory and regulatory disclosures
18.1 We will not file a copy of these terms and conditions specifically in relation to each user or customer and, if we update these terms and conditions, the version to which you originally agreed will no longer be available on our website.
