About Surveyors UK

Surveying is facing more change at once than at any point in its history.

AI. Skills shortages. Succession challenges. Visibility. Career paths shifting under people who trained for something else.

Surveyors have been navigating all of it without a neutral, independent place to land.

Surveyors UK is that place.

Nina Young

Our story

In 2021, Nina Young, Founder of Surveyors UK started the Student Surveyor Group on Facebook. A place for students to ask questions and get honest answers from qualified surveyors.

It grew fast. Within months, thousands of aspiring professionals were using it to find mentors, ask the questions they could not ask at work, and realise they were not the only one struggling with a particular part of the job.

That growth revealed something the profession had been missing. There was no independent home for surveying as a whole, no single space where students, professionals, and firm owners could connect across disciplines from all backgrounds and accreditations.

Surveyors UK was built to be that home.

The Surveying Room, our free community, is at its centre. Everything else — the newsletters, the podcast, firm membership, the referral network, the work on AI governance has grown from the same idea: surveying is one profession, and it deserves one trusted, independent place to stand.

What we do

We connect, promote, and support the profession through the moments that matter most.

That means:

  • A free, cross-discipline network and forums where surveyors talk to each other directly
  • Independent media — a podcast, This is Surveying and weekly articles, that cover the profession honestly, including the parts that are hard to say
  • Firm membership – Practical support for firms navigating AI governance, recruitment, referrals and growth
  • A public directory that helps people find the right surveyor without pay-to-rank listings

What we are not

Surveyors UK is not a professional body. We do not regulate, accredit, or set standards, and we do not compete with the organisations that do.

Independence is the reason firms and individual surveyors trust what we publish and what we build.

Professional bodies exist to set standards and protect the public. That matters, and it is not what we do. We exist for the parts of professional life that sit outside that remit, connection, visibility, and a place to think out loud with people who understand the work.

We support all types of surveying and all professional bodies to help break down silos and encourage collaboration.

Nina Young - CEO and Founder Surveyors UK

Who is behind it

Surveyors UK is founded and run by Nina Young FCA, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants with a decade of experience in audit, risk, and governance across regulated professions.

She has been fully embedded in the profession since 2020, when she began training as a residential surveyor and valuer. Halfway through that training, she made a decision: the profession needed Surveyors UK more than it needed one more residential surveyor. She chose to build it.

That outsider’s view is deliberate. Nina understands the profession from the inside, but answers to no professional body and protects no single specialism. That independence is what allows Surveyors UK to provide a view across all areas of surveying, not one discipline or professional body.
