What is Litmus?
Litmus is an independent practitioner group providing insights on AI in UK surveying.
Artificial intelligence is changing surveying faster than the profession can record what is happening.
Litmus brings senior practitioners into one room under Chatham House rules, so that people can speak plainly, and turns what is said there into insights the whole profession can use.
Contributors come from across the surveying profession as well as the legal profession. They speak from practice.

How Litmus works
Litmus is a standing group and the same people return each session.
Contributors meet quarterly, by invitation, and give their time voluntarily.
- Every session runs under the Chatham House rule,
- Every quotation is approved by the person it is attributed to before publication.
- Reports are published free and in full on this site.

What is Litmus?
Litmus is an independent AI group for the UK surveying profession, convened by Surveyors UK and chaired by Nina Young. It publishes free findings on how artificial intelligence is being adopted, resisted and governed in UK surveying firms
Is Litmus part of RICS?
No. Litmus is independent of RICS and of every other professional body. Some contributors hold RICS roles and take part in a personal capacity.
Do I have to pay or register to read a Litmus report?
No. Every Litmus report is free to read in full on this site and free to download as a PDF. No email address is required.
Can I quote or cite a Litmus report?
Yes. Each report carries a suggested citation. Litmus findings are published so the profession and media can use it.
Who funds Litmus?
Litmus is convened and funded by Surveyors UK. Where an individual briefing or piece of work is sponsored, the sponsor is named in the report, but has no influence over its content.
How are contributors chosen?
Contributors are invited for the perspective they bring, so that between them the group covers valuation, quantity surveying, building surveying, secured lending, professional liability and technology deployment.
