Special edition, Friday 28 August 2026

I have been talking to surveyors and firm owners for over five years. The same challenges and frustrations come up time and time again.

  • They have work they cannot cover and nobody obvious to hand it to.
  • They are fifty eight with no plan for what happens to the practice.
  • They have been approached about a partnership and have nobody independent to talk it through with.
  • Their marketing is a website from 2019 and a LinkedIn account they do not use or like to use.
  • They know AI is now impacting part of the job but they do not know where their firm stands. Regulation keeps moving.
  • They need to hire someone, but its tough to attract as well as retain good talent.
  • They are always worried about where the next client comes from.
  • And somewhere near the bottom, they need CPD that is worth the hour.

Every item on that list is a business problem.

The gap is structural

Surveying is well served for individual professional status. You can qualify, maintain competence, be regulated depending upon your accreditation.

Very little in the profession is built to support the business that employs the surveyor.

Around 80 per cent of surveying firms in the UK are SMEs. No HR function. No marketing function. No business development. No governance team. The person doing the survey is also doing the hiring, the pricing, the compliance and the succession planning.

What firm membership on Surveyors UK does

Membership is a tired word in this profession, so let me be direct.

  • Gets your firm found. You sit on Find the Right Surveyor, where the public describe what they need and are matched with firms that do that work. Not ranked by who pays the most.
  • Connects you to other firms. The referral network lets member firms pass work to each other. Overflow, cover, work outside your discipline or your area. No referral fee, no commission, no money passing through Surveyors UK.
  • Helps you recruit. Job posts on a board that reaches surveyors directly, plus an employer profile that shows candidates what your firm is like to work for (autumn).
  • Gives principals a room. The Surveying Room is free and open to everyone. Firm membership adds a space for the people running firms, where you can ask the question you cannot ask in front of your team or your clients.
  • Partner discounts. Six marketplace partners now, with more coming, offering terms on tools you were probably buying anyway.

There is one more piece coming. Succession UK. Buy, sell or merge surveying practices, the smarter way. Exiting a practice is the hardest commercial decision most surveyors ever make, and almost nobody has independent help with it. More on that later this year.

It starts at £35 + VAT per month and it is tiered on a firm’s size. I specifically developed the pricing so that it was accessible for all firms and companies.

Importantly this for surveying firms and businesses of all disciplines and backgrounds. Whether you are RICS, CIOB, CABE, TSA, CICES etc you are welcome.

It goes live next week

The full membership pages, what each tier includes, the pricing table, the Find the Right Surveyor all go live on Surveyors UK next week.

Seventy firms are on the waitlist. Some will join, some will not, and that is fine. Those who join early lock in their price.

There is still time to get on it. Waitlist firms hear first and get the opportunity to join before anyone else. Just send me a message or email nina@surveyors-uk.com.

This is built on trust. Firms being found, firms supporting each other, and firms getting on with the work.

Thank you for reading.
