Pass on the work you cannot take
Surveyors UK
- Business Development & Marketing
- Careers, Jobs & CPD
- Residential & Housing
The call comes in and you cannot take it.
Wrong discipline. Wrong county. Or simply the wrong week, because you are already booked to the end of the month. So you say no. Maybe a name comes to mind and you pass it on. Usually one does not, and the caller goes back to Google, and you never think about it again.
Every firm does this. Most weeks. work that needs doing, a firm that would gladly do it, and nothing connecting the two except whomever you happen to remember on the day.
That is one of the things firm membership on Surveyors UK is built to fix. It is not the only one.
What is opening
Firm membership opens shortly. We are onboarding our first firms at the founding tier, at £35 plus VAT per month.
I want to be straight about what exists today and what is coming, because I would rather you judge this on the plan than be surprised later.
The referral network. The first of its kind in this profession, and included for every firm member at every tier.
If you cannot take a job, you pass it into the network. Money does not change hands. There is no commission and no fee. This is surveyors and firms supporting each other with work they cannot fulfil themselves, which is something the profession already does informally and has never had the infrastructure for.
Only firm members can access it. It is being built now. It will be small at the start, because networks always are, and it grows as firms join. That is exactly why it is not being held back for the top tier. This is currently in build.
A profile built to be found. Every firm member gets a public profile optimised for search and for AI tools. This matters more than it did eighteen months ago. When someone asks ChatGPT or Gemini to find a surveyor in their area, the answer comes from somewhere, and most firms are currently invisible to that question.
You manage the profile yourself. Add updates, change your copy, update your contact details, add your team. It is yours, and you are not waiting on anyone to change it. I will be showing you exactly what a firm profile looks like next week. Included from day one.
Recruitment. A job board is coming, built for surveying rather than bolted on from somewhere else. Firms at certain tiers will also be able to publish featured employer content, because hiring is not only about posting a vacancy. It is about a surveyor understanding what it is actually like to work at your practice before they apply.
Succession UK. Buying, selling and partnering with firms, arriving in autumn for firm members at certain tiers. Selling a practice. Acquiring one. Finding a partner. Merging. This is the conversation the profession has least often and needs most, and there is nowhere neutral to have it. Listings will be anonymous until both sides agree to talk. Surveyors UK makes the introduction. It does not broker, advise, or value, and both sides are recommended to take their own professional advice.
Community. All firm members have access to The Surveying Room, alongside the surveyors already there.
Publishing. Firms at certain tiers can publish articles, news and events to the profession directly.
Some of this is live. Some is being built now. Some arrives later in the year. I am telling you the whole map rather than only the part that is finished, because you are being asked to decide whether the direction is right, not whether one feature is ready.
Who this is for
This is an independent platform, and it is not built around one professional body.
RICS, CABE, CIOB, TSA, or any professional body. You can add your professional bodies to your profile, so anyone looking at it can see exactly what you hold and who regulates you, and then make up their own mind. That is the whole idea. The profession is wider than any single body, and it deserves somewhere that reflects that.
There are tiers above the founding tier for firms that want more, built around capability rather than firm size. They run up to firms of fifty employees.
If you are larger than that, or you operate a panel, or you are a national employer, the standard tiers are not going to fit you, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. We are doing bespoke arrangements for those organisations. Come and talk to me.
The founding firms
We are taking a limited number of firms in this first cohort.
